A bit of news - I’m currently working my way through all of your support emails, and hunting down some more bugs. I will be moving to a new house over the weekend, so I will most likely not be available, but please still send along bug reports and any crashers.
We’re still having issues getting emails out to some of you guys. If you’re a .Mac subscriber or an AOL customer, we’re still having trouble getting an email to you. We’ll be sending them out manually tomorrow in the hopes that that doesn’t set off the mail server.
Also, we are aware of the issue with the constant new updates. If you update Tubular, you will be running 0.9.3, not 0.9.2 as the program says. Expect a new update hopefully soon with some minor bug fixes.
The private beta for people who preordered has been out for a little less than a week, but already the reception’s been extremely positive. Bugs aside, people are already talking about how useful Tubular has been for them. 2007 is going to be a fantastic year for Tubular, because we are already planning new features and tools that will make Tubular significantly more powerful and useful than it is now. So thanks to everyone for all your support, and we look forward to helping you make 2007 a little less productive.
Start up Tubular and check for updates, where you’ll find the third beta is released. This fixes two of those issues that were detected in the last release; Tubular will save the size of its window now, and you can now close videos and the sidebar will work again.

Update: The YouTube account favorites importing mechanism seems to be accidentally shut off in this release. It’ll be fixed very soon.
Update 2: The new version has been pushed out to the Sparkle updater. If it doesn’t automatically launch, choose “Check for updates” from the Tubular menu. It should work without any real problems, but if not, try deleting the file at ~/Library/Preferences/com.twistedninja.Tubular.plist.
Update 3: The update no longer requires a password. If you can’t update, try deleting the Tubular application and reinstalling it from the disk image.
Update 4: If you have an @aol.com email address, then your emails are bouncing. We will be contacting AOL soon to try and resolve the issue. Meanwhile, if you contact us with an alternative email address, we can send you the beta information there.
Here’s a little video demonstration of some Tubular features. These are all running live; none of these have been taken to Photoshop, but there was a little video editing involved because of a few minor bugs.
So a week and a half ago I promised a private beta for preorderers would be available by Christmas. Now it is the day afterwards, and you guys are still Tubularless. What happened?
Tubular’s development is coming close to 1.0. As many of you have noted, both with your comments and emails, you’re all very interested in getting your hands on this as quickly as possible. To that end, we will be releasing a private beta exclusively for people who preordered. And it will be coming very soon - before Christmas.
Aside from that, if you have multiple preorders (if you bought Tubular here and in the GiftZOT), you can give one of your licenses to another person (unfortunately, we cannot do refunds). If this affects you, please send us an email by clicking the Contact button at the top of this page with the email you used for either your MacZOT purchase or your purchase on this site.
Watching videos when you’re at your computer is fun, but watching videos wherever you are is even better. So now, you can take your favorite videos and put them right on your favorite media player.
To convert videos to your iPod, simply choose the video you want to convert in the Tubular window, and click Convert to iPod. That’s it. Tubular will then download the video, convert it to a QuickTime file, add it to iTunes, and tag it, all automatically. It handles multiple videos at the same time, as well.
The videos usually range between 400-800 kbps, which means that for most videos on YouTube, your iPod video file will come out to a few megabytes. You could stick dozens of these on your iPod without breaking a sweat.
Note: The graphics and positioning of all the widgets seen in the image above are subject to change, although the overall idea (a table with all of the conversions in it) will be staying.
