Browse, Search, Play

Tubular is much more than a simple YouTube-in-a-window application. It’s all about integrating online video into your lifestyle in a much more beautiful way than a simple web browser. It’s got some serious power features that will let you really use YouTube to the fullest. However, all of those are built on a bedrock of the basic functionality: browsing, searching, and playing. Let’s take a look at those three essential playback options.

Tubular FAQ

There have been a lot of questions floating around about what Tubular is. I’m going to try and answer some of them here.

Before we begin, however, I’d like to take a moment to recognize all of those who have supported Tubular since the preorder launched 8 days ago. You guys rock, and you have our undying gratitude.

Why should I use Tubular over my web browser?

Tubular was designed to make your online video experience easier, faster, and more enjoyable. It has a lot of little convenience features, such as keyboard navigation, which can make watching videos much more enjoyable.

As time goes on, we’ll be adding more features which will blow you away, and make Tubular even more indispensable.

System requirements?

As it stands right now, Tubular requires Mac OS X 10.4 or higher. It is a Universal Application, so no matter if your Mac is being powered by an Intel or PowerPC processor, you should be fine. We are recommending at least an 800 MHz G4 processor for good performance. Finally, you’ll want a high-speed Internet connection (300 kbps or faster) in order to be able to watch videos without waiting a few days for them to load (but since you’re probably already watching these videos online, you’ve more than likely got a fast enough Internet connection).

All of these requirements are subject to change. If you’re on 10.3.9, and you’re interested in using Tubular, contact me right away (either by the contact button at the top of the page or in the comments here). We probably won’t be able to make Tubular 10.3.9-compatible until 1.0.1, unfortunately, but it will happen if there’s enough interest.

When will we see more?

More information will hopefully be given over the weekend.

Public beta? Beta for people who preordered?

We’re all dying to get Tubular into your hands, but its taking time. Right now, we’re working on finishing up the last few features. Without making any promises, we will most likely be giving a private beta to all who preordered.

When is it coming out?

Tubular will be coming out before the end of 2006. If everything goes according to plan, it should be released around the end of November. A quick glance at the calendar shows that this is just a few weeks away, so stay tuned!

We all have apps for our Macs that improve our productivity. This is not one of those apps.

Introducing Tubular, the brand new YouTube client for OS X. Why would you want a YouTube client? Simple.

  • It’s pretty. Tubular was designed to have a simple, elegant, and out-of-the-way user interface that still manages to look gorgeous. With icons designed by Cyril Seillet and Tom Stoelwinder, and a user interface designed with the collective wisdom of dozens of people, Tubular is simply beautiful.
  • It’s familiar. Anyone who has used iTunes will feel right at home with Tubular’s look and feel. We’ve taken the UI ideas given to us by iTunes and ran with them, producing a user interface that is intuitive and usable.
  • It’s useful. Features like one-click iPod conversion and drag-and-drop playback really give Tubular incredible utility to anyone who uses it.
We’ll be unveiling more about Tubular in the next couple weeks. However, you can preorder Tubular right now for only $12.99. Simply click pre-order at the top of the page to purchase, or click coupon if you’ve got a coupon code.
