We all have apps for our Macs that improve our productivity. This is not one of those apps.
Introducing Tubular, the brand new YouTube client for OS X. Why would you want a YouTube client? Simple.
- It’s pretty. Tubular was designed to have a simple, elegant, and out-of-the-way user interface that still manages to look gorgeous. With icons designed by Cyril Seillet and Tom Stoelwinder, and a user interface designed with the collective wisdom of dozens of people, Tubular is simply beautiful.
- It’s familiar. Anyone who has used iTunes will feel right at home with Tubular’s look and feel. We’ve taken the UI ideas given to us by iTunes and ran with them, producing a user interface that is intuitive and usable.
- It’s useful. Features like one-click iPod conversion and drag-and-drop playback really give Tubular incredible utility to anyone who uses it.

at 12:48 pm on November 7, 2006,Hi, my name is Chris and I just bought this program. I think it is a great idea and it was pretty cheap as well, so I was happy to pay your rent while you finish it up ;). However, I think you pulled my email from paypal which is a mailbox I never check. Please send the code or whatever to the email on this comment whenever you do that. The comment link at the top didn’t work for me, so I am basically sending you an email through the blog. As such, I won’t be offended if you don’t post it to the website

at 3:16 pm on November 7, 2006,to be honeset, the icons are really sub-par… i don’t think tom did those, because usually his are excellent.
there seems to be an unseemly double border on the bottom of the window.
app seems like an interesting alternative if it’s quick enough.
good luck on the $20 price tag though…

at 10:38 pm on November 7, 2006,Yes I am a human.
i have a G4 Sawtooth right now and am going to be upgrading to a MacBook Pro once the new OS is released (I think it’s foolish to upgrade now & then buy the new OS when it is so close).
My point!
If I pre-order now, and then want to transfer the license to my new laptop, will I have any issues of registration errors?
This sounds like a great app, and the pre-order price is easily affordable, I just don’t like paying for things twice.
let me know.
you have my email (please don’t share it).
Thanks!!!!!

at 12:11 pm on November 8, 2006,Chris, I’ve changed the email address for you. Thanks for pointing out the contact link was dead; I fixed that too.
Noah, it is definitely a feature that I’m dying to do. It won’t make it into the 1.0, unfortunately.
-C-, you shouldn’t run into any problems with registration on another machine. However, you will have to transfer all of your favorites to the new machines.
Daniel, any videos that get converted to your iPod also get added to iTunes. So, if you have converted videos, you can watch those in Front Row.

at 3:30 pm on November 9, 2006,What does YouTube think about this, if they know about it at all? Since they derive their revenue from ads (and even being owned by Google, I’m sure they still don’t mind having the costs defrayed slightly), this program seems like something they might frown on a bit. If this is sanctioned by YouTube, though, good on it.

http://www.techcrunch.com/2006/11/15/huh-youtube-sends-techcrunch-a-cease-desist
Seems Tech Crunch was sent a Cease & Desist letter over their flv downloader. They seemed to have backed down (The downloader is still online) but what fate does Tubular have against the YouTube TOS??
The Revolution Said
at 2:50 am on November 27, 2006,That TOS was never a document agreed to or signed at the time of giving a developer access to the api’s and rss feeds..
OOPPPPSSS
Also, when a user looks at a youtube video, the video technically is downloaded to the users haard drive… another OOPPSss
And now the compnay is owned by Google which Google allows downloading of their videos on video.google.com… YouTube have nothing they can do against developers in developers have access to their api’s without an agreement.. their TOS only relates to “users” that use youtube and use these types of software items.. and just how they going to inforce this? Either youtube change their structure to prevent developers form accessing their api.. or just live with it.. legally they have NO ground.. let the fun begin….
