Tubular’s beta 5 is now ready. We’ve got plenty of improvements this time around, all of them addressing issues that I’ve been hearing about. It doesn’t do streaming yet, but we are working quite hard on getting it to work, because we hate having to wait for the video to load, too.
Here’s what’s new this time around:
- Fixed bugs that caused multiple searches to either crash or fail.
- Fixed bugs that caused some downloads to fail to download or crash.
- Importing favorites from YouTube has been fixed to retrieve all of your favorites, and not just your 10 most recent.
- Added Auto-Sync, to automatically retrieve new favorites from YouTube.
- Fixed the appearance and behavior of the search bar when you type past the width of the field.
- Replaced the unique progress bar with the system-standard progress bar in the conversion table.
- Fixed a number of small bugs and memory leaks.
So give it a shot and let us know what you think. It’s grown a lot more stable since the last time around. To get the update, launch Tubular and choose “Check for updates” from the Tubular menu.

at 6:34 am on April 12, 2007,Man you must be kiddin. Evertime I launch Tubular it asks for my youtube username in order to download my favorites. Is this your sync feature? Damn, this sucks. And if I watched a video, how do I return to my favorites? It does not work clicking if I click on “My Favorites”. I have to click on another button and then click back on “My Favorites” and then the app crashes and I need to kill it via alt+apple=esc!
Now that is enough! Give me my money back! I’ll send you the same text via email and hope you will be quick because this is getting very annoying with you. Learn how to code or do something else!

Also, after performing a search, the only way to switch to another category from the left pane (such as favorites) is to click the “x” in the search box to end the search. This isn’t logical at all. Also it seems to be loading my favorites on startup a lot slower than previous versions.

at 4:09 pm on April 12, 2007,About the only thing better in this “beta” (it’s still alpha quality) is that conversions are more reliable (provided you only click the button after the movie has loaded, or else it will crashed). Auto-Sync is broken, search brings up inconsistent results, and switching categories doesn’t work half the time.
I feel like you should be paying US by giving us a free version of Tubular 1.0, as beta testers. You can’t seem to find these bugs yourself. The amount of them in this app is rediculous.

The question now is how i download the latest beta, although from the comments i am not sure i want to. I had a hard drive crash so i do not have the original file installed so i cannot just update.
Man if he doesnt get his act together another more qualified developer is going to come along and make something a lot better and he will be screwed.

I guess you should just stop developing and give everyone their money back. I don’t see this going anywhere. Just like I thought: overly hyped eye candy that’s not even working properly.
For a talented developer it should be doable, something which you are clearly not.

at 1:50 pm on April 30, 2007,I formatted my drive, did a clean install of OS X 10.4 and updated to 10.4.9. I then did a clean install of Beta 5 of Tubular.
As soon as I click “Import”, Tubular crashes. ‘Auto sync’ does nothing. When I play a video, I then cannot close the video and get back to my search results. In fact, none of the buttons do anything once I’ve watched a video.
Can I have a refund please?
