The first private beta for Tubular has been released for all preorderers. If you purchased and did not receive an email with a download link, please contact us with the Contact link at the top of this page to get another email sent out to you. Hope you enjoy!
Update: The YouTube account favorites importing mechanism seems to be accidentally shut off in this release. It’ll be fixed very soon.
Update 2: The new version has been pushed out to the Sparkle updater. If it doesn’t automatically launch, choose “Check for updates” from the Tubular menu. It should work without any real problems, but if not, try deleting the file at ~/Library/Preferences/com.twistedninja.Tubular.plist.
Update 3: The update no longer requires a password. If you can’t update, try deleting the Tubular application and reinstalling it from the disk image.
Update 4: If you have an @aol.com email address, then your emails are bouncing. We will be contacting AOL soon to try and resolve the issue. Meanwhile, if you contact us with an alternative email address, we can send you the beta information there.

This needs many, many more key bindings. Not just for mouse-less watching, but so I can also make a Remote Buddy behavior for it.
Also, don’t forget about adding Subscriptions into the list!
(Tab to change focus between the left-column and the right column, Arrow keys to move selection around, Enter to start playing the selection, Esc to quit the current video, and Cmd-_ combos for the three buttons in the window. That’s what we need.)

at 9:28 pm on December 27, 2006,what about remembering window state when closing the app. This would be key. I don’t like to have to resize the app if I don’t need to

at 11:07 pm on December 27, 2006,I haven’t gotten the iTunes import feature to work correctly. Tubular will either crash, or give me a barber pole progress bar that says “completed” even though it hasn’t, or it will just sit there saying it is preparing (and the X cancel button doesn’t work)
Titles seem to be truncated, and there needs to be more than one kind of view, similar to iTunes. Descriptions should be there, too. (Though I don’t particularly care about the comments).

at 12:29 am on December 28, 2006,First of all, thanks for getting this out to us, but I do have a couple of comments.
When changing from one tab to the next, the window doesn’t change until I click it (even the refresh button doesn’t seem to bring up the content relating to the new tab).
While a video is playing, selecting a new tab does nothing until I close the currently playing video.
After clicking on a video nothing happens for a few seconds before the player comes up. I understand my comp isn’t the fastest and it does take a few seconds, but I’d like a curser change or some other kind of visual confirmation that it is working and I don’t have to keep clicking it thinking it hasn’t registered.
All minor things at this stage; but before long all those extra clicks are gonna get annoying.

at 2:14 pm on December 29, 2006,It’s very pretty and elegant, and seems to be running ok on my iMac G5. I’d rather expected that it would be able to (a) save out flv files from YouTube (like YouTubia), and (b) play (and particularly index) files off the local disk as well as from YouTube. I save everything remotely interesting I see on YouTube because so much of it has a habit of disappearing. And although iPod conversion is a nice feature, it’s lossy compared to just playing the flv files.
