Here’s a little video demonstration of some Tubular features. These are all running live; none of these have been taken to Photoshop, but there was a little video editing involved because of a few minor bugs.

Again, as a fellow developer, I think you should get this out as soon as possible. I’m not with the crowd who are foaming at the mouth demanding refunds, as I’ve seen that in my own users before. I’ve also seen the negative impact that missing deadlines causes. Whenever I release a new build to my users, I want it to be the best that it can be, and I always think I have all the bugs worked out. That’s *never* the case. There are always new features to add, and always bugs that crop up that I never encountered during my coding, beta testing, or release-candidate testing stages. I usually end up setting a limit, where I don’t add any features after a certain point, even if I have the code ready for them. Those features belong in a future release, not in a 1.0 release. We, as you early adopters, are ready for Tubular. We know that it will have bugs. We know that features we want will not be in the 1.0 version. We also need to have access to the program to help you out by showing you such things. When I first started developing software, I didn’t take my users’ opinions into account. I’ve learned since then that they offer insight, new feature ideas, and are one of the best resources for tracking down bugs. Trust me, as a developer who didn’t pay attention to user comments early in the game, you’ll suffer for it later if you don’t address it now. We’ve seen the great video of what Tubular is capable of. So what if it crashes randomly? Give us early adopters a copy to play around with; I, for one, will give you valuable feedback (including crashlogs, if need be!) to help you iron out any issues you’re having with programming Tubular. If you want to, feel free to bounce ideas or problems you’re having off of me at my e-mail address.

at 10:25 am on December 27, 2006,Nick: I understand what you’re saying, but if Steve is still finding ‘obvious’ bugs himself then it’s only natural that he doesn’t want to release it. Having your users go at an early version is more useful for finding hard-to-replicate bugs, in my opinion.

and modify searching to an “Acquisition” style with tabs appearing in the sidebar for that search request. Be better for managing searches.
